The Crewe HC is somewhere i’ve been longing to go to for a considerable amount of time. Crewe works itself continues to produce locos today however what remains of the works is a fraction of the size of the original footprint. The Heritage Centre was established in 1987 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first train to arrive at Crewe Railway Station and its history and collection has only grown since then, acquring primarily locomotives which were built at Crewe originally. It is also the home of the only APT in preservation; an iconic train despite what some may have to say a about it.

The North Junction Signal box is impressive to say the least. The VAST number of levers for points and signals leaves you in awe of how complex this junction was. Directly below this is the relay room, with hundreds of relays connected directly to the levers. You can see an example of this below.

The centre is quite unique in that it lets you climb aboard the cab of the APT and a couple of the Class 43s which sit outside. The APT interior has faired well given this traffic.
