Now this is something a bit different. The Bluebell Railway was one of the first preserved railways in the country which means over time it has amassed a large collection of locos and carriages. It just so happens that some of those carriages are original Pullman coaches. Along with a converted Mk1 saloon coach, coaches Sapphire, Fingall and Christine make up the Golden Arrow service offered today.
The Golden Arrow service was considered the height of train luxury and originally carried passengers between London and Paris from 1929 to 1972. A service was normally made up of 10 coaches but sadly, many Pullman coaches have been scrapped since the service ceased, with only a handful making their way into preservation.
This is an experience and a luxury I have rarely had the chance to enjoy before. The food, service and condition of the carriages was absolutely 1st class and you can only imagine how much hard work has gone into restoring and maintaining these. An incredibly enjoyable day, despite the weather trying to dampen the mood.

Notice the words Flèche d’Or in the nameplate above the words Pullman in the image above. This is the French translation of ‘Golden Arrow‘.
Pullman coaches were known for their luxurious nature and interior but this was the first time I could experience it for myself. Stepping onboard, you are smacked in the face with opulence and it’s unrelenting. From the service to the fixtures and fittings, this is something very special.
