Breamore is the last surviving station on the now closed Salisbury & Dorset Junction Railway. The line was around 20 miles long and ran from Salisbury (Alderbury Junction) to West Moors near the Dorset Coast. The station was built in 1864 and the line itself opened in 1866. The line itself was single track with passing loops at each of the stations.

on 3rd June 1884, there was a terrible accident which saw one of the services from Salisbury derail between Downton and Breamore which killed 5 people and injured 41 others. The incident was blamed on poor track maintenance and the train speed which was reported to be 70mph, which was well in excess of the track limit.
As part of the Beeching cuts, the line was closed in 1964 and the station left to fall into a state of dereliction. The site was purchased in 2005 and restored by the new owners to its current condition, and they have done a fantastic job with it.

The platform on the opposite side of the station waiting room looks as though it has not had much work done to it since 1964. There is evidence of another building which would have existed on this platform as shown below. Cross referencing this with some archive photos, it looks as though it would have been a very rudimentary shelter for passengers while they waited for the next train.

The above photo is not my own, it is taken from a notice board which sits behind the station today. Credit: Unknown.
